Some of the major projects undertaken by EnGIO include:

  • Preparation of Environment Management Planning within Kolkata Metropolitan Development Area (DFID funded KUSP supported project).
  • Effect of Exposed Environment on the Health Status of Urban Population in West Bengal (collaborated by School of Advanced Studies in Industrial Pollution Control Engineering, Jadavpur University and Supported by Dept. of Environment, GoWB).
  • Social mobilisation for polio eradication within KMC and Maheshtala, (UNICEF supported).
  • An International Workshop on Climate Threat To Sundarbans Across India & Bangladesh.
  • Decentralized urban waste management project in six words of central & east Kolkata funded by ITC, supported by KMC & PCB (to be initiated soon).
  • Evaluation of the social and gross environmental impact of a technology shift – coal fire to oil fire conversion – in case of small and medium industries within Kolkata Municipal Corporation and its immediate surroundings (supported by WBPCB as part of the India – Canada Environment Facility)
  • A Report on Phase-I of The Model Facilities of Municipal Solid Wastes of North Dum Dum Municipality and New Barrackpore Municipality, West Bengal (assigned by WBPCB)
  • National Level NRCLPI “Catch them young” through Lead awareness program under the quality campaign of Quality Council of India (QCI)
  • Community Based Disaster Preparedness (CBDP) project within Kolkata, (UNICEF supported)
  • Generation and implementation of micro area malaria control strategy in selected areas of Kolkata and Howrah (a Govt. of West Bengal supported project)
  • Evaluation of health indicators within slum population of Kolkata with Geographical Information system (a KMDA and KMC supported project)
  • Comprehensive Health Development Programme in Bhatpara Municipality, (DFID funded KUSP supported project)
  • Social mobilisation for pulse polio eradication within KMC area, (UNICEF supported project)
  • Social mobilisation for strengthening routine immunisation within KMC, (UNICEF supported)
  • Sherader Shera Nirmal Pujo Puroskar (an awareness project supported by Govt. of West Bengal, Department of Environment)
  • Sherader Shera Nirmal Pujo Puroskar 2008 and green awareness through green booths (an awareness project supported by Govt. of West Bengal, Department of Environment)
  • WBSEDCL Power GIS Project (a KMDA supported project)
  • Capacity Building on Electricity Reforms in India, Bagladesh & Nepal (RESA Project) (an project regarding consumer awareness generation in electricity supported by CUTS – CRC)
  • A project named ‘Tramjatra’, regarding the survival of the eco-friendly Tramways system in both Melbourne and Kolkata.
  • Another project worth mentioning is ‘Financial & other impacts of non motorized vehicle (Rickshaw) in Calcutta’s Urban structure’, undertaken in association with eminent environmental experts Prof. J. Whitelegg of Liverpool University & N. Williams of Aberdin University being funded by DFID, British Govt.

From time to time EnGIO has also collaborated with different NGOs like WorldWide Fund for Nature (WWF)South Asian Fund for Human Initiative (SAFHI) and Calcutta Ahead (a London based charity organisation) mainly in context to activities vis-à-vis creating awareness related to health and environment.
